FIRES AND EXPLOSIONS
- Marvin
A. Salzenstein and Robert
J. Stanis
wrote an article entitled Investigating LP-Gas Explosions. It
was
published in the April issue of Butane-Propane News. The paper was well
received
as we've gotten many requests for reprints, including a request for a
hundred
of the reprints from someone wanting to use them as handouts in a
training
seminar. While we cannot supply these quantities of reprints, we would
be
pleased to mail single copies to interested parties. Because of
copyright
restrictions, we cannot post a copy of the paper on our website. If you
can't wait for snail mail, you can read the paper at the Butane Propane News
Website . Please call them
directly
for large quantities of reprints (818-303-2854).

COMPANY HISTORY:
Polytechnic began in 1961 in a small
office
on the near South side of Chicago, in the shadow of the Illinois
Institute
of Technology. The major consulting assignments were in areas of air
pollution,
industrial zoning and fire/explosion investigations (which Polytechnic
still does today). With the advent of products liability in the
mid-60's,
the staff and space grew, still on Chicago's South side. Accident
investigation
became an important part of its business and in 1972, Polytechnic moved
to
Lincolnwood, a Chicago suburb, into its own building housing offices,
library
and laboratory facilities.
The Polytechnic logo is a derivation of the
chemical symbols
devised
by English scientist John Dalton (1766-1844). Like many chemists before
him, John Dalton created a personal set of symbols for the known
elements -
three of these symbols comprise the Polytechnic logo. The empty circle
symbolizes oxygen; the circle with the dot in the middle symbolizes
hydrogen; and
the cross inside the circle stands for sulfur.
